The San Diegans for Safe Drinking Water Coalition is committed to keeping our water supply free of contaminants or additives that are not specifically intended to make it safe and sanitary. Beyond purification, we oppose the addition of any substance to drinking or bathing water that is designed to medicate, or is known to cause harm to people or animals, regardless of any purported benefit it may have. We actively oppose fluoridation and our objective is to end this dangerous practice in our city and in other municipalities nationally and worldwide. Toward that aim, we heighten awareness of this issue by educating the public and government officials with factual and scientifically-validated evidence. We challenge violations of the law and breaches of public trust at the local, state, and federal levels. We strengthen and further our cause by aligning with organizations and individuals who share our commitment to safe water.

San Diegans for Safe Drinking Water Coalition

The San Diegans for Safe Drinking Water Coalition (SDSDW) is a collective body of individuals, including dentists, doctors, scientists, journalists, engineers, other professionals, and other members of the public at large who are opposed to the treatment of our water with toxic waste, fluosilicic acid for its fluoride, which would thereby overturn the voting will of the people, and city ordinance 67, and the U.S. Safe Drinking Water Act, and provisions of the CA Health and Safety Codes of Jan., 2009.

Vendor misrepresentation
The original state fluoride bill AB 733 does not mention or authorize use of fluosilicic acid as a usable source of fluoride. It is NOT natural calcium fluoride, and the FDA has NEVER approved any synthetic fluorides for human ingestion.

Dept. of Health & Human Services Admit Fluoride Levels Are Too High The Food and Drug Administration (FDA),Center for Disease Control (CDC), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Dept. of Agriculture task force (and the EPA’s own panel separately) agree that the current allowed level is far too high.

CDC and National Resource Council Confirm Only Toothpaste Works The CDC has published that swallowed fluoride from treated water does not decrease teeth cavities from the blood or saliva (MMWR 8/17/2001); and the NRC published that saliva fluoride levels are almost zero after living in fluoridated cities (NRC, 2006).

Adverse signs, even when symptoms are absent
The NRC panel concluded that even without symptoms noticed by consumers, drinking the treated water for any time period causes signs that progressively increase until symptoms eventually surface.

In addition to significant fluoride penetration into developing infant brain and all other organs, all consumers accumulate fluoride irreversibly into bone that continues to rise the longer the treated water is consumed over one’s lifetime. When it reaches 4,000 ppm in bone, the bone is weakened substantially, more subject to fracture (NRC, 2006).

Cities across the country and world are stopping fluoride injections Hundreds of cities across the US have stopped fluoride injections due to safety and health concerns and the unnecessary expense.

Legal Issue

San Diegans have voted against putting any fluoride compound in to the drinking water: Municipal Code 67 stands today. It also states that no taxpayer money should be used to fund the treatment of our drinking water. However, that is what happened: the funds that were used to prepare the treatment plants and to treat the water for 2 years came from the First 5 Commission, which receives its funding through tobacco tax dollars.
